HWESC Training Gets Results!

Hawthorn Woods Elite Soccer Club has accomplished a lot over the past few years. Our goal is to develop you as a person, teammate, and soccer player. As you will see from the President's Letter for this quarter, HWESC is a great soccer club for you and your player!

President’s Message

Dear Hawthorn Woods Elite soccer families:

I would like to take this time to welcome in all the parents, athletes and all other family members to the Hawthorn Woods Soccer Club. It’s an exciting time of the year with school and soccer starting up and getting back into our family routines.

Our club’s number one priority is to provide a fun, safe and rewarding soccer experience for everyone.  There’s much to do this year!  Parents have talents too, so lets put them to work!  Don’t be afraid to step up, volunteer and help out with any organizing of any events throughout the year!

We encourage our kids to support their school’s soccer teams or whatever activities are available to them.  Make us proud and always remember to use what you learned from playing under Coach Tom and apply it to your daily successes.  Don’t forget, family is first then school then soccer.

There’s a few points the board of directors would like to communicate with you for the following 2018 season. The board feels it is important to remind all parents, friends, and family attending games to continue to be respectful to all the referees that will officiate our games this season. Your conduct has been mostly excellent in the past. It is important we keep it that way. Young assistant referees especially get discouraged if they are reprimanded from the parent sidelines. It will only hurt the future of these young kids getting involved with the sport they love.  Please accept that there will be some bad calls (or non-calls) this season. The very best International refs miss many calls. There are times when a foul is missed and verbally expressing feelings from the sidelines comes without thinking.  But, as sideline spectators, we need to allow the refs to do their job and not interfere with the game.  Refs should be held accountable if the game becomes unsafe. But, the coaches are better at handling these situations. Our club's reputation is based on our coaches and players conduct and sportsmanship when out on the field. The example our parents set is an equally important part of our clubs character and our standing in the soccer community.

Here’s a simple mind set to approach each game:

  • The Refs job is to officiate the game as best as they can.
  • The Players job is to play hard, play as a team and have fun.
  • The Coaches job is to manage the game, players and encourage his or her team.
  • The Parents job is to cheer and support the team with encouragement and not to coach or ref from the other side of the field.

Give your kids a chance to show what new things they have learned. It is always fun to see them develop as the season progresses.

At this time, I would like to thank Coach Tom Chmela for all the hard work and dedication he shows all year long.  In addition, also recognizing his coaching staff and the team managers for keeping things organized. Most of all, thanks to the parents for choosing Hawthorn Woods Elite Soccer Club and believing in our system of play.  Also for taking the athletes to all practices and games. Most importantly, for supporting them to make this another successful year at Hawthorn Woods Elite Soccer Club!

I wish all the best in the season ahead for everybody in the Hawthorn Woods Elite Soccer family!

Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us so you can have a pleasant experience with our club!

Best regards,

Ralph Lung
Board President
