Camp Letter From Coach Tom

WOW!  2019 was out best camp ever!   Parents, you have amazing kids! This was our 7th year at Pioneer Trails on Big Blue Lake in Holton, Michigan.  We had a total of 53 players and 28 adults.  There was excitement felt from the players who have been at camp in the past to the "deer in the headlights look" of the first year campers.  We were off and running.  Morning training was something special this year and for the first time, all levels trained at the turf field at Holton High School. Late afternoon training was geared for the individual players' skill development and again all levels were together at the camp facilities.  Evening trainings were split and the target was for scrimmages.  The coaching staff was impressed with the players' improvements and overall work ethic.  Players for all teams played with each other tackling certain game situations and the young ones did well!  It was nice to see the parents attend and watch training daily.

Recreation time was filled with the GAGA pit, volleyball, more soccer, swimming, boating and archery.  The big winner this year was fishing!  Thanks to Dan Orlowski and Brent Carlin for your early morning fishing and teaching so many first timers how to fish.  You caught a few bigs ones and yes, there were a few stories on the ones that got away! The Talent Show was another classic (you can see it all on our web site).  Finally, the All Club Relay with teams made up of players, parents and coaches was full of excitement, teamwork and lots of unwrapping ( if you are curious, ask around for the details)!

Meal times along with night snacks is where we saw the real magic of camp.  Listening to the kids talk and laugh is something really special.  Players of all ages sat together-the older girls were so encouraging and helpful to the younger players.  The younger girls looked up to the older girls.  This was happening not only on the soccer field for training, but also when engaged in other activities and conversations.  Thanks, girls.

This camp is amazing and requires lots of help.  I would like to thank the parents for giving us your personal and family time to make this special. You were such a big part of our daily activities and helping anytime when and where needed.  The coaches were outstanding and worked as hard or even harder than the players.  This included late night meetings, going over the daily training and planning the next days' sessions, as well as talking about the players growth observed daily.  Karl, the camp director and cook, was himself as usual.  Simply put, THE BEST.  Our medical team (Mike and Lauren) were outstanding-making sure that everyone had what the needed.  Finally, I need to thank Brenda.  She does it all and does it well-organizing the the transportation arrangements, snacks, taking pictures, downloading them nightly so that you all can see what happened that day, and finally-being a mother to all.  Thank You, Thank You and Thank You.

My dream is to have all of our players attend this special club event.  The bonding, friendship and soccer development as an individual and team are big.  Save the dates, June 21 - June 25, 2020.
